You never walk alone ritual
The ritual
that I am going to be talking about is when Liverpool football club fans sing “
You never walk alone” before the start of every football match. My whole family
are from Liverpool so they use to go too all the games when they were younger.
But when my mum and dad moved to Manchester and I was born. It was harder for
me to as it wasn’t on our doorstep like it was for them. So when I was growing
up my Dad of course made me supporting Liverpool and I really didn’t want to at
the time when I was young because all my friends either supported Manchester
United or City and little me just wanted to support who ever my friends did. So
when I would ask my dad can I support someone else he would laugh and be like
no chance. I remember when he said to me when we go watch a game, ill realize
why supporting Liverpool was the best choice. My first game was on my 8th
birthday and ill always remember when just before the game was about to start. I
heard “ You never walk alone” for the first time. It is something that I will
never foregt, to hear this from 50 thousand plus people singing this with pure
passion and emotion showed me why my dad wanted support liverpol. When I look
back now, it shows how something such as a football team can bring so many
people together and its truly amazing. The fact that they do this before every
game is also cool as well. Not only is it for the fans to sing, but also its
for the players, its shows that the fans are with them all the way, through the
good and through the bad and hearing it before important games is so powerful
it can of worries the away team as they know this means that they are up for
it, the fans and the team are ready to do anything they can, to get the win. I
not sure if this counts as a ritual but I was committed to talk about it because
its something that hits home for me and it brings so much happiness when I think
of the memories of when I first heard it. This has been something that Liverpool
have done for years and years and its something that they are very famous for.
It shows how tight knitted the community and team is and something that am
proud my team does every game and that’s why my dad wanted me to support them so
much
Harry I wish I was able to go to a sporting event as big as a Liverpool football game. I bet the atmosphere in that stadium is something completely otherworldly. Hopefully one day I will be able to go and experience this firsthand and will be able to see your side of the world. I loved the music that you posted here.

ReplyDeleteHi Harry, it is really surprising that you talked about the pre-game ritual of Liverpool F.C. I did not expect someone to talk about that but it really was interesting even if of course I know the song. I have never heard it in real life tho, and I guess that it is an amazing experience. Nice job on the blog, keep going lad !
ReplyDeleteHey Harry! I found your blog very interesting as I don’t know much about the world of Soccer. I thought it was so powerful to watch how everyone came together to support one team despite their personal backgrounds. I’d have to agree with you that this ritual displays the tight knitted community between the teams and the fans.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Harry. I really appreciate seeing a different take on the music and Rituals blogs compared to what I've seen so far. I never really thought of football matches having their own rituals until now. I also think It's really cool that it's a very shared experience not just with your family but with everyone in the stadium.
