Music and Us: Our New Playlist

Image
Being from England, I feel like we have a lot of culture when it comes to music and also being so close to many countries in Europe I feel like I know quite a bit about other cultures and their music too. I think a big part of that is because of playing soccer and meeting people from all around the world too. The 4 countries am going to talk about is obviously England, then I will talk about Turkey, Spain and lastly Ireland. I understand that these are all in Europe but I feel like these cultures have so much history with music and its something that hopefully people enjoy learning about The traditional song I chose for England is " The water is Wide" even though this song was created in 1906 and am sure there are older songs out there, this one personally kind of shows how the music in England has been for years and the meanings behind it. This song is about dealing with themes of love, separation and longing, it is normally played with just a guitar or harp melodies which ...

You never walk alone ritual

Image
The ritual that I am going to be talking about is when Liverpool football club fans sing “ You never walk alone” before the start of every football match. My whole family are from Liverpool so they use to go too all the games when they were younger. But when my mum and dad moved to Manchester and I was born. It was harder for me to as it wasn’t on our doorstep like it was for them. So when I was growing up my Dad of course made me supporting Liverpool and I really didn’t want to at the time when I was young because all my friends either supported Manchester United or City and little me just wanted to support who ever my friends did. So when I would ask my dad can I support someone else he would laugh and be like no chance. I remember when he said to me when we go watch a game, ill realize why supporting Liverpool was the best choice. My first game was on my 8 th birthday and ill always remember when just before the game was about to start. I heard “ You never walk alone” for the...

I decided to interview my Dad as he is 58 years old and is from Liverpool and at the time, Music in Liverpool was getting really big so its interesting to hear what he had to say. Me: What kind of music did you listen to growing up? Dad:    I grew up listening to a mixture  of rock and pop, The Beatles being a massive influence. Their music was everywhere in Liverpool at the time, and we all felt proud to be from the same city. I also was a big fan  of The Hollies and Gerry and the Pacemakers, who were part of that Merseybeat ( mersey is like what they call liverpool, Merseyside) scene. Besides that, artists like Marvin Gaye and The Supremes were big hits as well. we listened to everything on Radio and vinyl records were our lifelines to music, and I remember spending hours listening on the radio with my parents and brothers . Me : Which one out of these was your favorite growing up? Dad: I think its  hard to pick just one, but I’d have to go wit...

Music and Gender

Image
After really thinking about this and what came to mind was female rappers. Personally, In my opinion , when I hear the word rapper, I always thought of male rappers and that's not me trying to be nasty or anything but It just the first gender that comes to my mind but when I really think about Rappers, I realized that there are some women Rappers who have changed the Industry for rapping and not just for women. The first women rapper that comes to my mind is Nicki Minaj. She is considered the best women rapper to ever be as well as one of the best rappers of all time. She is the only female rapper to win the best female Hip-Hop artist awards seven years in a row as well as winning overall 11 awards out of twenty-nine nominations. She has had countless songs hit the number 1 on the charts as well as making someone of the worlds most famous songs such Starships which is i believe very well known in America as well as Europe. She was born in Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and Tobago, ...

Music and Me

Hi, I am Harry, and am originally from Manchester, England and I moved to America when I was 18 to play college soccer, I’ve lived in a few states over the three years and have explored very big and also very small towns that America has to offer, I like to DJ , mostly house music and it’s a fun hobby to do.   1) Music that is my go to right now is actually something that I never listened to before I came over to America , but it is country music, when I first listened to country music, I wasn’t a fan at all, I actually thought nothing of it, until I kept hearing it and gradually I started to learn words to a song “beautiful crazy “ by Luke combs . This was the first song that I listened to regarding country music and is still my favorite today, this genre of music is my go to right now because when I listen to it, especially when driving , I kind of just feel so relaxed and at peace with everything in the world . I would say it’s now one of my top 3 types of music and honest...
