Music and Me

Hi, I am Harry, and am originally from Manchester, England and I moved to America when I was 18 to play college soccer, I’ve lived in a few states over the three years and have explored very big and also very small towns that America has to offer, I like to DJ , mostly house music and it’s a fun hobby to do.

1) Music that is my go to right now is actually something that I never listened to before I came over to America , but it is country music, when I first listened to country music, I wasn’t a fan at all, I actually thought nothing of it, until I kept hearing it and gradually I started to learn words to a song “beautiful crazy “ by Luke combs . This was the first song that I listened to regarding country music and is still my favorite today, this genre of music is my go to right now because when I listen to it, especially when driving , I kind of just feel so relaxed and at peace with everything in the world . I would say it’s now one of my top 3 types of music and honestly I love it, I try get my friends back home to listen and they were the same, at first they didn’t like it, now they are sending me new songs by country singers asking if I have heard it. In England , country music isn’t very big, but gradually it now is and it’s cool to see artist like Luke combs traveling over to do concerts.

2) A genre of music that is meaningful to me is house music, and you’re probably thinking , how can house music be meaningful because it’s more of an upbeat type of music. Well, it’s meaningful because not just is it my favorite type of music, it also reminds me of back home , it’s a very popular type of music at home especially in my age bracket, it also reminds me of my friends and all the good times we had listening to house music , when I hear house music, it brings me back to the times me and my friends would hang out, play soccer and just chill. Being away is hard, but when hearing certain type of house music songs, it’s nice to look back of the memories they gave me with my friends and it helps me in the hard times when I am homesick or just not in a good mood that day. House music is about good vibes and energy and when I listen to it, it brings that out of me and that is why it is meaningful to me.

3) So music that I don’t really enjoy listening to or kind of relate to at all is heavy metal, i personally don’t like how loud it can be and the rhythm or anything, I personally think I don’t like it because am pretty chilled out and I think heavy metal is very intense music . It’s something I’ve never listens to and probably won’t, of course I’ve heard it before but it’s just not for me . I think it would be to much to listen to and I just am not a fan of that type of music that’s all.

  1. The fact that “Beautiful Crazy” was your first choice literally sold me. I already love Luke Combs for the amazing country singer that he is, but with this song specifically I tend to have on repeat and blasting in my car while singing my heart out. Crazy is beautiful to me as well :)

  2. HARRYYYYY your blog is fabulous, I enjoyed reading it and getting to know your taste in music. I found it most interesting that you like country music, especially a song like "Beautiful Crazy" which is quite different than house and heavy metal. The portion I liked the best was the section on house music, I know your one heck of a DJ and I still havent gotten to hear you in action but I hope to one day get to experience that. You did a great job here man and I cant wait to see more.

  3. Hi Harry, it's really cool to hear about your transition into country music, I know that feeling of slowly getting into a genre you initially didn’t connect with. I agree with you about heavy metal music, I feel the same way about the intensity.

  4. Hi Harry, I really found interesting that you like house music because I do too ! I can be listening to that type of music at any time during a day, it can be in the morning just as in the evening. When we are travelling with the soccer team, I listen to house music as well. Also, like you said it, it also reminds me my friends and the good times that I spent with them during the past holidays on the beach with a campfire.

  5. I was surprised to hear that country music is on the rise in England. From what I hear, people and common ideals from the southeast U.S. aren't the most well liked on the global scale and especially not in that region, and Luke Combs is one of our more controversial artists. I do really like his new song though "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma"

It's sort of on the heavier side of country so you may not like it but for me it's one of those songs that just s l a p s regardless off what genres I like, because I'm not crazy about new country, rock, or metal.
